Newborn Screening Education Videos
Every baby born in the United States gets a newborn screening test done. The goal of newborn screening is to detect and diagnose rare diseases as early as possible so that treatment can begin if needed when the outcome is likely to be the best, which is before symptoms happen.
Unfortunately, not all states test for the same diseases. We are working hard at the ALD Alliance to enable every state to test their babies for all conditions on the Recommended Uniform Screening Panel (RUSP). Before tests can be implemented, important research is needed - and newborn screen pilot programs are a big part of that research. Please watch our newborn screening education video below and share with friends or loved ones that are expecting a baby.

Thank you to Dr. Tartania Brown, Dr. Alejandro Iglesias, Dr. Melissa Wasserstein, and Liliana Rojas for participating in this project. We would also like to express our appreciation to the staff at Metropolitan Jewish Health System, Columbia University - Irving Medical Center, and Montefiore Hospital for helping to coordinate these interviews.
